Seed vs Investment

I want us to look at some differences between planting a seed and making an investment. The reason is that most don’t think there is any difference between the two except that one involves plants and the other money. Yet I believe those are not the only differences between the two. The main difference between the two is in the thinking patterns involved. There are sowers involved in business as there are investors involved with farming.

The rich fool in Luke 12: 15 - 21 was foolish because of this very thing. I have always argued that he was wiser than most people as he had reached the end of his pursuit. He had acquired enough to feed on the rest of his life and therefore thought to take the much desired rest unlike most in our time who are always reaching out to the moon even though they know it is unreachable. He was foolish because he looked at his life from an investment angle instead of the sower one.

The sower thinks outward while the trader thinks inward

A sower plants to feed others while the trader invests to feed himself

Most of what a sower produces benefits others while most, if not all that an investor makes is for personal benefit

A sower works with people, a trader uses people

A sower’s surplus feeds his neighbors; a trader’s surplus feeds his greed

A sower’s focus is the satisfaction of the consumer; a trader’s focus is his satisfaction

A sower uses time to prepare the transformation of his seed to a harvest; an investor uses time to fatten his kill.

Abraham was a sower; Lot was an investor

A sower gives out of generosity; an investor gives as bait

A sower tithes out of gratitude; an investor tithes to receive more

God is a sower; Satan is an investor

A sower widens his net to bless; an investor widens his net to increase

David was a sower; Solomon was an investor

David gave each in his city meat and a loaf of bread; Solomon though extremely wealthy ruthlessly taxed his people

To a sower the means is as important as the end; to an investor the end justifies the means

A sower spreads his hands to give; an investor spreads his hands to gather

A sower gives willingly; an investor gives in expectation of a return

Are you a sower or an investor?

God bless you
